Marshall Ayres Bowen Joins Shield Ranch as Vice President and General Counsel

Austin, TX – January 2025—Shield Ranch is proud to announce that Marshall Ayres Bowen joined the team in December 2024 as Vice President and General Counsel. In this pivotal role, Marshall leads advocacy initiatives for Shield Ranch’s legacy ranches, manages legal affairs, and supports conservation efforts related to land and water. 

A fourth-generation member of the Shield-Ayres family, Marshall brings a profound commitment to preserving the legacy of Shield Ranch for future generations. His leadership extends to serving as secretary of the Shield Ranch Foundation and Shield-Ayres Foundation, as well as a board member and policy chair for the Texas Agricultural Land Trust

Prior to joining Shield Ranch, Marshall built a distinguished career in private practice at Butler Snow LLP in Austin, specializing in appellate law, commercial litigation, and government affairs.  

Marshall’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Texas A&M University, a Master of Arts in Theology from St. Mary’s University, and a Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law.  

His multidisciplinary perspective and understanding of intergenerational dynamics will be invaluable as Shield Ranch continues to lead in private land conservation in Texas. Marshall has addressed topics related to next-generation engagement and the stewardship of legacy ranchlands, often serving as a spokesperson for Shield Ranch’s innovative work.
