A prescribed burn is scheduled to take place at Shield Ranch Barton Creek near Crumley Ranch Road on:
- Feb. 2
- Feb. 4-5
- Feb. 9 & 11
- Feb. 23-25
Shield Ranch is conducting this prescribed burn in cooperation with Lake Travis Fire Rescue, Pflugerville Fire Department, Travis County Emergency Services District 12, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Travis County Fire Marshal’s Office, personnel from other local fire departments, and various natural resource agencies.
The prescribed burn is part of a broader wildland fire training program that includes national and locally developed courses. Prescribed burns are an important component of the training and provide opportunities for the development of wildland fire skills in a controlled environment while also advancing broader community wildfire resiliency.
The prescribed burn is intended to reduce wildfire danger and improve ecosystem health by removing invading shrubs, consuming dead and downed vegetation, reducing the number of exotic species, and enhancing the health and diversity of the native plant community.
The prescribed burn will proceed only if conditions are favorable.
