Mushroom enthusiasts and novices will enjoy this walk with educators from the Central Texas Mycological Society. Cooler, damp conditions bring out different fungi, including the Wood Blewit, Turkey Tail, and the rare Texas Star Mushroom, our state mushroom! Identify fungi, learn their roles in the ecosystem, and discover new species.
This 2.5 hour program includes:
- Guided walk on 2 miles of ecologically diverse and thoughtfully designed trails on Shield Ranch, a 6,600-acre protected wildland. Trails have no or minor elevation change and are well maintained, with uneven terrain.
- Introduction to the importance and connections of fungi in our ecosystems.
- Information about the Central Texas Mycological Society and the Campsite at Shield Ranch.
