Land Steward Technician
Kata serves as the land steward technician at Shield Ranch Barton Creek where she implements wildlife and habitat management practices, helps maintain equipment, and assists with other land management projects.
Kata graduated from Texas A&M University in the summer of 2021 with a Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife and fisheries sciences. Her goal is to be a private or state biologist but is willing to pursue any opportunity that will expand her knowledge of land and natural resource management.
Kata has previously held internships with Texas Parks and Wildlife and most recently worked for Texas A&M AgriLife at JBSA-Camp Bullis. She was drawn to Shield Ranch because of the hands-on learning environment. “Discussing management practices in the classroom is one thing,” she explains, “but being in the field observing how the land reacts to each practice firsthand is something no textbook prepares you for, and that’s what I love.”
A fun fact about Kata is that she has kayaked through a flooded underground limestone mine in Kentucky! When she’s not working, Kata enjoys spending time with friends and family, wildlife photography, two-stepping, and planning her next great adventure.
