Douglas Adair
Land Steward, Shield Ranch Camp Wood
Douglas Adair serves as the land steward at Shield Ranch Camp Wood in Real County. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Ranch, which includes wildlife habitat and range management, with a focus on endangered species. Douglas oversees infrastructure maintenance and repairs, including the spring-fed water system.
Prior to joining the team in 2022, Douglas worked for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) as the superintendent managing the 40,000-acre Devils River State Natural Area. During his tenure with TPWD, he also served as the superintendent for Seminole Canyon State Park and Historic Site and interim superintendent for the Kickapoo Caverns State Park and Devil’s Sinkhole State Natural Area.
Before his tenure with TPWD, Douglas worked in the entertainment and outdoor industries. For five years he served as the operations manager at the Uvalde County Fairplex and worked for the HEB Foundation Camp for seven years, serving in various operational roles including wildlife management, maintenance, and communications. Douglas earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Columbia Southern University and has been a licensed and ordained pastor for over 20 years.
Douglas resides on the Ranch with his wife, Joanna. Outside of work, he enjoys playing the guitar and spending time with Joanna and their grandchildren.
