Who We Hire

Working at Camp El Ranchito requires some experience working with children or youth, eagerness to be a great role model and build a respectful community, maturity in a group setting, and a desire to explore the outdoors.

Life at Camp

El Ranchito is a residential nature camp modeling sustainability and community at the artfully designed and off-grid Campsite at Shield Ranch. Staff live in screened shelters and are without regular use of electronics. Our facility uses fans, shade, and breezes to stay cool. We do not have air conditioning. The desire to participate in a shared community is a must!

Residency includes all meals, board and activities during staff training and the camp session. Staff have designated off and refresh time. 

Health and Safety

Camper and staff health and safety are our highest priority. Staff receive safety guidelines and training. We follow Covid-19 recommendations and information from the Centers for Disease Control, American Camp Association, the Texas Department of State Health Services, as well as our medical director and camp nurse. Staff are required to have a Covid-19 vaccination.

Application Process

Please follow the instructions below to apply. For new applicants, use the “New Staff Application.” Returning staff should use the “Returning Staff Application.”

Steps to Apply:

1. Open the application link to start your application.
2. Create or sign in to your account. New users should create a new user account, while returning users can sign in with their existing credentials.
3. Select “Register.”
4. Choose your appropriate session.
5. Complete the application forms:
   •    Basic Information
   •    Emergency Contact
   •    Application
   •    3 Reference Check Forms (new staff only)
   •    Background Check Authorization
6. Submit your application.

Compensation and Incentives

Returning Staff: Receive a 5% raise for each program/year they return.

Early Sign-On Bonuses:

• Outdoor Girl staff who sign up by Jan. 31 receive a $50 early sign-on bonus.
• El Ranchito staff who sign up by March 31 receive a $150 early sign-on bonus.

Referral Bonus: Staff members who refer a friend who is hired receive a $200 referral bonus.
